We Put Productivity In The Palm Of Your Hand

TomTom GPS Navigator
One of the most used third-party applications on my Treo is the Palm TomTom GPS Navigator.
As a frequent traveler this one is an absolute must for me. Unlike GPS systems that are factory
installed or designed to remain on the dashboard, the TomTom GPS Navigator for Palm steps back
as the other great capabilities of my Treo take over as my ultimate productivity and
communication tool. You can use the GPS on foot or while biking.
The GPS has most of the capabilities of its hard-wired counterparts, and offers precise turn-by-
turn directions with a variety of voices from which to choose. Tons of ponts of interest from the
nearest gas station to banks, drug stores and supermarkets, restaurants, even churches and golf
courses. Sign on to TomTom PLUS as an add-on and get millions more, along with downloadable
funny voices or famous people for navigation that's interesting, to say the least, and TomTom
Buddies, instant Messaging and more, which allows you to keep in touch with a selected group of
people and keep track of their locations.
Here are some descriptions and highlights direct from the TomTom website at TomTom.com:
- Easy to use: The simple installation and intuitive user menu give you the perfect navigation experience.
- Detailed maps of the US and Canada: Door-to-door navigation across the United States and all
Canadian provinces and territories.
- Clear and accurate spoken and visual instructions: Easy to follow route instructions and crystal clear
2D or 3D maps lead you from door-to-door whether you travel by car, by bike or on foot.
- Easy call handling: Never miss a call or SMS message while navigating through on-screen instructions.
- Navigate directly to contacts stored in your address book
Right out of the box the Navigator is ready to charge, pair to the Bluetooth radio of your Treo and
install the maps. You can choose to have maps on a DVD which can be installed on an SD card, or
pre-installed on an SD card which only requires insertion to launch and authenticate the software.
Here's the SD Card version and what's in the box:
- 1 GB mini SD memory card + adaptor containing TomTom NAVIGATOR 6 software and detailed map
data of the whole of the United States and all Canadian provinces and territories.
- Wireless Bluetooth™ GPS Receiver
- Car charger - a 12-24V cigarette lighter adaptor that can also be used in trucks so you can charge your
GPS receiver even as you drive. Also includes plugs for the most popular PDAs and smartphones.
- Home charger to charge your GPS receiver at home.
- Installation poster on how to install TomTom NAVIGATOR 6 on your PDA or smartphone.
- User manual CD contains a full user manual and TomTom HOME

Editor's note: I tell people all the time that crashes and freezes on a Treo or Centro is most likely
due to a corrupted file, or a conflict in applications somewhere, just as PCs sometimes experience.
Ihave been using this software for a few weeks now, and the few times I have experienced a
freeze or crash, SafeGuard has isolated the problem file and allowed me to delete it or at least
understand the problem, and it's not a bad device, which could save you time with returns of your
phone, or frustration not knowing what's going on. If you own a Treo or Centro, Buy this
software!

How To Install MP3 Music on Palm OS Treo
There are two easy ways to store songs on your optional SD memory cards and play them
on your Treo.
1 On a Windows computer, using Windows Media Player to sync directly, or
2. Install onto the SD card using a USB card reader.
Here's how:
This Month's Tips & Tricks
|
Windows Media Player Sync (XP):
www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia
Note: When you go into windows media player you have to have pocket tunes open on the device. If pocket tunes
is not open on the device then Windows Media Player will not see the device.
USB Card Reader:
Many computers have slots for SD memory cards built in. If yours does not, purchase a card reader from your local electronics
store. It connects by USB, and when you insert a card, it will be read by the computer as another drive. You can simpy drag and
drop music to the SD card without syncing.
With an SD card reader/writer, you can drag-and-drop files directly to your SD card. Most of them support multiple memory card
formats, and connect to your computer via USB.
I put music and podcasts in the AUDIO folder, my pictures in the DCIM (“Digital Camera Images”) folder, and my video and
movies in the PALM > PROGRAMS > KINOMA folder.
Note: When you buy an SD card reader/writer, be sure that it supports SDHC (also called SD Card 2.0). If it doesn’t
support SDHC, you won’t be able to use it with SD cards over 2 GB.
The Palm OS Treo will not accept mp3 music files on the device itself. They must be stored on the card.
